Although meditation techniques have been widely researched, the effectiveness of stress management (in an organizational setting) as been little explored. A study was done (See Biomedical journal literature from MEDLINE/PubMed. National Library of Medicine - Reference: J Occup Med. 1980 Apr;22(4):221-31. PMID: 6988553 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE] http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov , Dr. Patricia Carrington, Dr. Herbert Benson, H. Robinson, GH Collings Jr., LW Wood, PM Lehrer, Rl Woolfolk and JW Cole) as part of a program of stress reduction in industry comparing relaxation and controlled conditions. The study and research program involved 154 New York Telephone employees using one of three techniques: 1. CSM ~ Clinically Standardized Meditation (Dr. Patricia Carrington) 2. (ROM) ~ Respiratory one method meditation 3. (PMR) Progressive Relaxation According to the study, clinical improvement of stress related symptoms at 5 an a half months, showed significant improvement of stress related symptoms but only those groups who used meditation techniques (not the PMR which had 78% compliance rate. The study also showed that the effects were seen regardless of the frequency (more often or occasionally). The studies conclusion: "The safe and inexpensive semi-automated meditation training has considerable value for stress-management programs in organizational settings".
